Computers Make Me Crazy!

Can I be honest with you? I have no idea what the fuck I’m doing. Domains, web hosts, sub-domains, FTP, servers, blah, blah, nightmare. Whatever. I’m okay with it. Actually, the past 48 hours has been kind of like a crash course in all of this stuff and I’m maybe a little less intimidated by it than when I first started. So, I’m good. My brother will come to the rescue to iron out all the kinks.

So, I’m just going to keep my new blog simple. I’ve bought my own domain for it, which is a nice touch. For now it’s going to be hosted by WordPress. I don’t want to even think about going it on my own. And it seems to me that the effort it might take to have my site hosted (although I’m able to download a WordPress application for it) is not worth the cosmetic differences I’m currently driving myself crazy over. It’s an issue of pages versus posts. I want to be able to post in my pages and therefore have nice, shiny headers like Australia, Articles, or the exciting Uncategorized to direct people to the material they want to read. Instead you’ll have to direct yourself to the sidebar of categories where the same “headers” are found. Really, it’s an issue of headers versus sidebar and although aesthetically it would be nice to have nice, shiny headers, you all will have to deal with sidebar categories. Whatever. I’m going to throw up now.

It’s cold. I soon will have to get ready for work. It’s also the first day of the 25% off Amex event. So the next three days for me will be a crazy shit show. Wish me good luck. I dread work events. I’m going to cry now. But I’m really okay. New site! Hooray for me!

My Reference Letter!

Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! My reference letter has finally arrived! After weeks of chasing several former colleagues at Pasteur A and B, Séverine and Nicolas stepped up to the plate and were so kind as to provide me une lettre de recommendation for my application to teacher’s college. Now, all I have to do is get the rest of my application in order (I’m still awaiting my transcripts) before I send the whole thing off to Mike at CANTEACH in New Zealand. Then, the waiting game begins. They say it takes about six weeks for your application to be reviewed before you receive an e-mail confirming either your acceptance or (gasp) denial. Although the likelihood is more than good for my acceptance (knocks on wood), I won’t believe it until I see the e-mail with my very own eyes.

Now, what do I get the two of them for their trouble? Chocolates? A book on Toronto? Le snore! Keep in mind, whatever it is I get will have to survive a trip across the Atlantic. I’ll figure something out. Maybe some ice wine? Who knows?

My So Called Gay Life (published November 6th, 2009)

I remember watching the original British version of Queer as Folk for the first time. I was about sixteen, had already come out of the closet, but really hadn’t any idea what it meant to be gay. I knew that I was gay, had always known in fact (I have the doodles of hairy-torsoed men in an old colouring book to prove it). But I had no clue how real gay people lived. ‘Where did they work? What did they do? How did they meet?’ Like the Lochness Monster or Bigfoot, gay people seemed a dreamed up myth to me — until that fateful Friday night. I had never been more enthralled by a television show in my life. I sat on the brown laminate flooring of my tiny bedroom riveted by the gratuitous images whirring before me: the gyrating naked male physiques, the Day-glo and sequined hot-pants, the seizure-inducing strobe lighting, the aloofness of one-night chance encounters with very young strangers…

I’m moved in!
